Google Toolbar - How to Add it to Your Browser and Why You Want to Do It

In simple terms, a web browser toolbar is any group of buttons or icons that activate a given program function when clicked. They are designed to offer shortcuts to commonly used functions when you browse the Internet.

It's a worldwide accepted fact that Google is the most popular search engine amongst thousands of Internet search engines. But if you have to pull up Google's home page every time you run a search, you're wasting time. Google Toolbar was designed as a tool to make the Internet surfing easier and help people find the information they are looking for as quickly and easily as possible.
Google toolbar offers major benefits and other miscellaneous useful features, which are listed below:
Google Search Window: Take Google's search window with you anywhere you go on the Internet. This built-in search window makes it incredibly easy to make a quick and efficient search regarding anything you happen to be reading. It helps people find the information they are looking for as quickly and easily as possible.
Pop-Up Blocker: Pop-up ads - the little advertisement windows that sprout like weeds in your garden that "pop up" in your browser window and are a real impediment to productivity. It's best to use a pop-up blocker, which prevents these annoyances from opening as you surf the web. The Google toolbar has a built-in pop-up blocker that provides relief from this perpetual pest.
Auto Fill: The Google toolbar's auto fill function can save you scads of time filling out order forms and other pages on the Web. The feature lets you store your name, address, and other information in one place securely on your computer. This allows you to automatically have any form filled in based with your saved personal information and drastically speed up the process of filling out forms and applications online.
Additional Features: Google is continuously making updates and upgrades to the functions represented on the Google toolbar. Now they have options for spell check, a word translator and an autolink feature that instantly provides a map of a given location, bookmarks, a VIN number that gives a vehicle's history, ISBN numbers to book history, etc.
Google Toolbar for Internet web browsers is a feature provided by Google Inc. and it can be installed in almost any browser including Internet Explorer (IE) and Firefox. It provides you a Google search bar directly in your browser window. To install Google toolbar in your browser, first you must make sure you have an eligible operating system like Windows. It can be installed by navigating to: http://toolbar.google.com and following Googles installation instructions.
After you've installed Google Toolbar, you will notice it has a shortcut to the Google Bookmark page and Page Rank indicator. The Page Rank indicator denotes a web pages importance according to Google. Website pages are ranked on a scale of 0-10. Zero being the least important and ten the most important. Google Toolbar also has a feature that allows you to login quickly to your blog or Gmail account.
Google is also offering a new version of the Toolbar for enterprise environments. With this new version, a business can distribute customized toolbars to their users pre-loaded with custom buttons for Intranet sites, employee directories, and frequently used information sources.
These are just a few of the useful features provided by Google toolbar. It should be clear that Google Toolbar is a must for anyone who uses an Internet browser on a regular basis for faster and more efficient Internet surfing experience.

Getting Started in SEO - What is SEO and How it Benefits Your Website

Having trouble getting started in SEO? Here is a little article in the first of a series I wrote up giving you layman's knowledge about how to get started in SEO. You can literally get started in SEO straight away right after you finish reading this article. Heck, I'm practicing SEO as we speak by writing this article. My aim in this article is to explain to you what it is and why you would want to think about learning about how to get started in SEO.

You need a solution to a problem. You turn on the computer, go online onto Google and type in your problem. The first page has numerous, relevant, important pages that provide you with solutions to your problem.
Welcome to the world of SEO.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is one of the most popular free means of getting "traffic" to a site. In layman's terms, it means getting interested people to click onto the link for your website.
It is an important skill of Internet Marketers and Webmasters; Internet Marketers want their stuff to be bought, so they try to optimize their site to show up on page one of a search engine. Webmasters, those in charge of maintaining the design and popularity of a site, also have to be SEO specialists.
So. How do you go about getting started in SEO and getting your site to show up on the first page of a search engine? I'll tell you now that it's not easy getting started in SEO. A page that may have been number 1 a week a go may be number 2 this week. SEO should ideally be maintained regularly. That is, if you want your page to stay on top.
Without further ado, let's get started in SEO!
All content online is connected. It's a small world online, thanks to the search engines. They employ the use of mathematical formulae to calculate how "relevant" a page is. It also gauges the "importance" of a site by how many links point towards the site, ie. a site that has 10 recommendations from other sites will rank higher than a site that has 9 recommendations. But it doesn't stop there. Those 9 or 10 sites that link back to your site have to be deemed as "important" themselves to boost up your website.
Naturally, these two points go hand-in-hand; when you're getting started in SEO, try and have content that is relevant. Relevance leads to the article being deemed as an authoritative source and hence it will more likely get linked by big sites. Write to get interest, not to get traffic.
That's it for one article. To summarise, in order to get started in SEO, you have to write interesting, relevant content that would want people to link to your website, since that increases your important and subsequently, page number. Good luck getting started in SEO!

How to Check If Google Has Indexed Your Site

If you own a website or a blog, or both, you'd probably want Google to know you exist. I mean, Google knew YouTube existed and copped it for a whopping $1.6 billion dollars. I'm sure you could do with, half of that kinda cash lying around somewhere. So to get there, you need to get your site or blog indexed in Google as a starting point.

How To Check If Google Has Indexed My Site
1. Fire up your browser and go to Google. Now, type in the url of your site or blog into Google's search box either like http://yoursite.com/ or www.yoursite.com or yoursite.com. Each variation of the url might bring up different results so try all of those. If you get a result, you're IN! You're now in Google's database where someone who happens to search for your name or the name of your site, will find it in Google. For this example, I'll be using General Motors' blog (bet ya didn't know General Motors' had a blog, did ya?). Why General Motors as an example? I just like the color of its site.
2. Alternatively, you could type in site:http://www.yoursite.com or site:yoursite.com to see if it's indexed. This special syntax tells you how many of your pages Google has already indexed and are showing up in its database. Don't fret if yours isn't indexed yet. If your site is relatively new, it's quite probable that could be the reason why.
3. Now, if your site is indexed, what you'd probably like to do next is find out, how much Google really knows about it. So, type in info:http://www.yoursite.com or, info: followed by any of the other URL variations I mentioned above. That should bring up a page which looks something like this:
Google shows a few clickable links which you can click to get more information about your site. You will see a link to Google's cache of your URL. A cache is a copy of the page that Google indexed. You can click on 'link to' to see who's linking to your site and so on (a tool that I would recommend you use to find out who's linking to your site is MarketLeap's Link Popularity Check at http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/. It's free to use and very useful indeed).
Let's just try clicking on Google's cache and see what pops up. What you'll see is a bit of information that Google tells you about when it last indexed your site and at what time.
Tip: Those 'in the know' about search engine optimization takes advantage of Google's cache feature to have it spider their sites regularly. Here's how you can do the same:
If you have a whole lot of pages on your site, Google's bots will never usually index all of it in one go. It will spider your site a bit at a time and return to index some more.
What you do is check Google's cache a few times over a few days to see how often Google's bots 'pays homage' to your site. Once you get an idea of its frequency, update your content before Google's bots returns. Do this regularly enough, and Google's bots will understand that your site is one that is regularly updated. What happens then is the bots will keep a regular schedule of visiting your site.
Taking advantage of this fact, place a link in your site or blog (now knowing fully well when Google is coming over for a visit), that points to your own product page, which could be a direct response web site or an order page (these sites hardly rank well in Google because of its lack of content). This sends a surge of traffic from your blog (which is now regularly visited by Google) to your product's website (hardly visited by Google). That's traffic you never had to pay for.
There's a lot to search engine optimization than meets the eye, but it is vital to anyone doing business online to understand it. I'll be covering more on this topic along the way and pointing you to resources that will keep you well up-to-date on how to keep you sites highly ranked and bringing in steady traffic.
